Sgraffito is the art of incising, or scratching, a design into multicolored layers of plaster. From a distance, the black and white walls of the Schwarzenberg Palace appear to be made of stone carved into a repetitive protruding pyramid shaped design, but this turns out to be an illusion created by the sgraffito. The Schwarzenberg Palace was built between 1545 and 1567 and is a prime example of the Czech Renaissance style of architecture. The architect was Agostino Galli. It is currently owned by the National Gallery of Prague.
Location: Hradčanské náměstí 2, Prague 1 just above The Castle
